This summer, the L77a and L77 rural roads near Rastatt-Rheinau will be extensively rehabilitated over a length of around three kilometers on behalf of the Karlsruhe Regional Council. Damaged road sections, unclear traffic routing and accumulations of accidents make the work necessary. The rehabilitation measure will be carried out with full closure of individual sections of the road.
When will the renovation work begin and how long will it take?
The overall project will begin on Monday, July 3, with the repair of the Mack intersection (L 77a / K 3740) and is expected to be completed by the end of October. On Friday, June 30, the installation of the signage will already begin. From Sunday, July 2, 6 p.m., the Rastatt tunnel will be fully closed so that work in construction phase one can start on Monday, July 3.
Exactly which road sections are affected?
The L77a between the intersection with the L77 (at Gate 1 of the Mercedes-Benz plant) and the Dr.-Konrad-Adenauer Bridge will be rehabilitated. The intersection at Gate 1 will be partially reconstructed and widened, and repair work will be carried out on the Dr.-Konrad-Adenauer Bridge. An additional lane in the area of the intersection and the extension of the approach lane in front of the traffic lights are intended to reduce traffic congestion at peak times. Surrounding intersections will also be rehabilitated as part of this measure. In addition, the guidance and crossing for cyclists at the junction of Plittersdorfer Straße with the L77a will be improved and made safer.
What traffic restrictions will the construction work entail?
The rehabilitation will be carried out in four construction phases. In construction phase 1, the intersection of the L77a and the K3740 (Zaystraße) will be rehabilitated, in construction phase 2, the L77 from Gate 1 to Gate 3 of the Benz plant. In the third construction phase, the L77 from the Riedkanal to Gate 1 will be rehabilitated together with the junction of the K3769, and in the final construction phase, the L77a from Gate 1 to the Dr. Konrad Adenauer Bridge will be rehabilitated. In order to complete the construction work as quickly as possible, the Regional Council, in consultation with the city of Rastatt, has decided on a full closure of the respective construction sections. Large-scale detours are therefore necessary.
Will the construction work affect bus services?
Yes. In the first construction phase, regional bus routes 222 and 227 are affected. The bus lines will be diverted via Plittersdorf to Steinmauern from Monday, July 3, until Friday, July 14. Line 222 will depart from the "Richard-Wagner-Ring" stop and the school bus line 227 will depart from the "Zay" stop directly to Steinmauern. The bus stops "Baldenau" and "Zaystraße" will not be served. The modified bus schedules can be downloaded here.
