When awarding building plots to private investors, the city attaches importance to creating affordable housing for people with lower incomes. This housing should also be barrier-free - adapted to the needs of senior citizens and people with disabilities, for example. With the "Rastatt Model", which was adopted by the municipal council in 2021, the city of Rastatt has already taken an important step toward creating social housing in new buildings.
The principle: The private provider of the housing grants the city a right of proposal for the occupancy of the barrier-free new apartment and also ensures that the rent for the renter does not exceed the costs of accommodation recognized by social benefit agencies. In return, the city subsidizes the rent. The agreement is valid for a defined subsidy period.
