The city of Rastatt and the Rastatt municipal council are clearly committed to enabling people with disabilities to participate in public life in the city without barriers and on an equal footing. This commitment is set out in the "Municipal Action Plan for Inclusion", (PDF) (1.6 MB) which has been in place in Rastatt since 2016 and was developed together with those affected.
Current action plan inclusion
On July 1, 2019, the municipal council unanimously approved the update of the municipal action plan for inclusion. By 2023, a wealth of measures will again be implemented for a barrier-free Rastatt and the participation of all people in social life in the city. Whether in terms of mobility, culture, leisure and sports, participation, early childhood education, education and care or housing: The current action plan shows what the city plans to do in the coming years.
For example, the inclusive housing project in the Zay "Living at home in Rastatt" is being further concretized. It enables older people and people with disabilities to live independently in their own homes for a long time. Barrier-free design in public spaces is also making progress, for example with barrier-free bus stops or green spaces. And a network of inclusive daycare centers is being set up for the city's youngest children.
Inclusion is a human right
Inclusion is a human right. The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities has existed since 2009. It states that people with disabilities have the same rights as people without disabilities. Inclusion means belonging, self-determination and participation in public life. Inclusion is an ongoing process that does not happen by itself and must be lived and shaped by everyone.
