The municipal council is the main body of the city and the political representation of the citizens. It determines the objectives and framework conditions for the city administration and decides on all important city matters. Unless the Lord Mayor is responsible by law.
The municipal council of the city of Rastatt consists of 40 honorary city councillors and the mayor as chairperson. The 40 seats on the Rastatt municipal council are currently divided between seven parties. The municipal council meets once a month, usually in public sessions. Interested citizens are cordially invited to attend. Access to the meeting room is barrier-free.
Citizens can also have their say during the municipal council meeting. This is known as citizens' question time. Question time usually takes place at the beginning of every public meeting. Here, questions can be asked about municipal matters or suggestions and proposals can be made.
