The city of Rastatt promotes cycling. To this end, the cycle path network is to be expanded across the board and existing gaps closed. For years now, the city has taken cycling into account in the planning of every road construction project. As a result, cyclists can now cycle safely on dedicated cycle lanes on many routes in Rastatt. With its annual participation in the nationwide city cycling campaign and the offer of rental bikes, the city also promotes the switch from car to bike. As part of the mobility concept, the city of Rastatt is also currently analyzing the cycling network in order to expand and improve the connecting routes.
Rental bikes/KVV nextbike
Rastatt can be explored in an environmentally friendly way on two wheels by renting a bike. The KVV.nextbike bike-sharing system complements the bus, train and car-sharing services in Rastatt. A total of 30 nextbike rental bikes are available at five stations in Rastatt:
- Station forecourt
- Cultural square
- Upper Kaiserstrasse
- Town Hall Herrenstraße
- Gallery Fruchthalle
Renting the bikes is very simple: users must first register free of charge via the KVV.nextbike homepage or the nextbike app. The number of the respective bike is then entered into the app or the QR code of the bike is scanned. The frame lock then opens automatically and the bike tour can begin. The rental bikes can be returned at all five stations in Rastatt. The bike is simply parked and the lever on the frame lock is pressed down. A short beep confirms the successful return. Further information: www.kvv-nextbike.de

The charging compartments are locked with a PIN of your choice and can be opened again with the same PIN. Prior registration is not required. There are also three bicycle repair stations in Rastatt: at New Britain Park in Kaiserstrasse, at Kulturplatz near the district administration office and at the Regiomove port at Rastatt railroad station.
City cycling
Since 2020, the city of Rastatt has taken part in the nationwide "City Cycling" competition every year. The aim of the campaign is to encourage people to switch from cars to bicycles. And secondly, to set an example for climate protection. Within 21 days, the aim is to cover as many distances as possible by bike in a climate-friendly way.
in 2023, 381 people in Rastatt took part in the campaign. They cycled a total of 71,109 kilometers, once again more than in the previous year (65,617 kilometers).
in 2024, city cycling will take place from June 23 to July 13.
Karlsruhe-Rastatt cycle highway
A high-speed cycle path will be built between Karlsruhe and Rastatt in the coming years. The approximately 21.5-kilometre route will run from Karlsruhe's southwest city to Rastatt railroad station. The high-speed cycle path is intended to increase road safety for cyclists and enable speedy cycling between the cities.
The aim is to make cycling more attractive, especially for commuters. The Karlsruhe Regional Council, in coordination with the city of Karlsruhe and the city of Rastatt, is responsible for the preliminary planning up to the definition of the route. The planners at the regional council are currently working on various routes based on the feasibility study. The aim is to make a decision on the preferred route in spring 2023. Among other things, the environmental impact of the project will be taken into account. More information can be found here.
