Submitting applications online, using e-payment to pay parking tickets or using sensors to monitor the indoor climate in the city's offices: With the city of Rastatt's overall digitalization strategy (PDF) (1.5 MB), the administration is constantly becoming more digital - both for citizens and for employees. This is because the city wants to increase citizen service, relieve employees of routine tasks and develop Rastatt into a competitive digital location. In April 2022, the municipal council gave the green light for the digitalization strategy. Since then, the city has implemented the first measures. More are currently being planned.
Citizen services are becoming increasingly digital
To enable citizens to deal with as many matters as possible online, the city is already implementing the so-called OZG services. These are services in accordance with the Online Access Act (OZG) that are offered digitally. These include, among others:
- Apply for a birth certificate
- Apply for a registration certificate
- Apply for a resident parking permit
- Apply for a landlord's certificate
- and many more
The procedures can be carried out online via the Service-BW portal.
Existing digital services, i.e. online services, are easy to find on the city of Rastatt's website.
In order to be able to make full use of the services, the city is in the process of implementing an electronic payment system. City administration employees are also benefiting from the digitalization strategy. New IT procedures make everyday work easier. These include online appointments in the citizens' office and the expansion of e-payment. A social intranet has also been set up to promote collaboration between employees and simplify communication channels. In addition, the city's digital team is pressing ahead with the introduction of comprehensive project management software.
Rastatt on the way to becoming a smart city
Rastatt is on its way to becoming a smart city and is relying on the LoRaWAN wireless network. Sensors can already be used to digitally monitor water levels in flowers or record and process humidity levels in museums. This network can be used by the city administration as well as the municipal utilities and the municipal community.
Digitization strategy is a process
The first measures of the digitalization strategy have been implemented. However, digitalization is a process that is constantly evolving. For example, the city administration will continue to work on offering citizens even more online services and providing city employees with a modern working environment.
