The average age of the German population has been rising for years. This is due to increasing life expectancy and a birth rate that has been well below the replacement rate of 2.1 for years. The age pyramid is turning. The proportion of the population dependent on support is growing. The proportion of people of working age who have to make this transfer is getting smaller and smaller. This is creating a care gap that could develop into a demographic crisis and will put the cohesion of society to the test. The speed and seriousness with which this situation is acknowledged and translated into concrete action will determine the future prospects of municipalities, cities and districts.
To enable the city of Rastatt to react to the changing population, it has created the Social and Education Report (PDF) (12.7 MB). The report shows, among other things, that settlement development is developing dynamically. The influx of new residents has been positive for years. The city's population is growing and is becoming increasingly heterogeneous.
In order to overcome the challenges, active social planning is required that reflects the key socio-political developments in the city. Municipal structural problems should be identified and analyzed at an early stage so that the necessary socio-political course can be set in good time.
in 2009, the city of Rastatt presented its social and education report for the first time. Since then, it has been updated every five years by the Department of Youth, Family and Senior Citizens. The last update took place in 2019.
The social and educational report of the city of Rastatt contains a wide range of figures, data and facts regarding the composition of Rastatt's population. It records the living conditions and needs of the city's population and formulates fields of action. The municipal social and education report forms the basis for decision-making on social and socio-political issues.
