The Climate Council of the city of Rastatt advises the city administration on the implementation of climate protection targets. It can also independently submit proposals to the municipal council. The members of the Climate Council include the parliamentary group chairmen of the Rastatt municipal council as well as representatives of the Rastatt Climate Alliance, the youth newspaper Ravolution, the Rastatt youth movement Fridays for Future, the KIT-Aueninstitut and the Baden-Baden/Rastatt chamber group of the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Architects. The Climate Council is an important link between politics, administration and society.
The Climate Council meets twice a year under the leadership of the municipal climate protection manager. The Climate Council has already initiated and the municipal council has approved a number of measures, including
- the obligation of the city administration to equip municipal buildings with photovoltaic systems,
- to review the sustainability of urban projects submitted to the municipal council in advance,
- To make Rastatt climate-neutral by 2035.
