The Murg river with its paths, green spaces and the large tree population of around 800 trees in the city center alone characterize the cityscape. The Murg is of inestimable value and a central recreational area for everyone in Rastatt. However, in the course of the construction work for the HWS Murg Rastatt project, interventions in the open spaces and the tree population will be unavoidable.
The planning team recognized this as a key challenge and integrated open space planning into the planning process alongside environmental planning. The aim is to minimize necessary interventions as much as possible and to take into account any subsequent improvements resulting from changes at an early stage.
As part of the variant analysis, various options for ensuring flood protection are examined and evaluated according to a list of criteria. Options for tree preservation or replacement planting will also be examined. Once the project has been completed, Rastatt residents on both sides of the Murg should have access to high-quality green spaces and open spaces that characterize the cityscape.
NOTE: The Murg Rastatt flood protection, dam rehabilitation and aquatic ecology project is currently in the planning phase. The project website is therefore under construction and will be updated regularly.
