The historic and listed building of the Franz brewery on the Murg river is a landmark in the cityscape. Rastatt beer is currently brewed on the site, and apartments, a hotel and a brewery museum are soon to be built here.
The Franz brewery was taken over by the Scheidtweiler Group from Pforzheim in 2015. The group plans to build a brewery hotel with around 96 double rooms and a boarding house in the western part of the Franz site. The brewery itself is to be extended with a new brewhouse and a brewery museum will also be integrated into the main building.
On the eastern part of the Franz site, which was handed over to the project developer REATIS Planen und Bauen GmbH & CO. KG in 2017, several residential buildings are also to be built. A so-called perimeter block development and multi-storey individual houses with 2-, 3- and 4-room apartments are planned. A total of around 150 apartments are to be built. The corner building along Rauentaler Strasse is also to be landscaped. The footpath and cycle path along the Murg river will also be redesigned as part of the construction project.
Planning process
There were delays in the planning process due to the coronavirus pandemic. On July 25, 2022, the municipal council of the city of Rastatt finally approved the development plan. Construction of the residential buildings is to begin. A building application for the first construction phase of the "Murgterrassen" residential development for three residential buildings with 55 apartments has already been submitted by the architects from Project GmbH in Esslingen. Planning permission for the project was granted on July 27, 2023. The brewhouse of the Franz brewery will initially be renovated in the existing building.
You can find the legally binding development plan (since 27.08.2022) for the Franz Areal on this page.
