Total swimming fun - whatever the weather! In November 2023, the municipal council decided by an overwhelming majority to build the combined pool and thus approved the draft plan by the Lehmann architects' office (Offenburg). The combined pool at Schwalbenrain will combine an indoor and outdoor pool and replace the dilapidated "Alohra" indoor pool.
The indoor pool will include a swimmer's pool with six 25-meter lanes, a training pool, a teaching pool, a diving pool with diving tower and climbing wall, a children's pool and a slide tower.
The outdoor pool offers a multi-purpose pool with four 50-meter lanes and four 25-meter lanes, a leisure pool, a children's pool and a wave slide. There is also a playground and plenty of sunbathing areas.
If everything goes according to plan, the preparatory measures for the construction of the combined pool can begin after the 2024 outdoor pool season. The indoor pool complex should be completed by the end of 2027; the outdoor pool area is scheduled to open in spring 2028.
In 2021, the municipal council originally set an upper cost limit of 40 million euros for the combined swimming pool project. However, due to increased construction costs and higher energy prices - as a result of the pandemic and the war of aggression in Ukraine - this upper cost limit can no longer be adhered to. The planners, the architectural firm Lehmann from Offenburg together with AO Landschaftsarchitekten from Mainz, are currently assuming costs of 51.2 million euros. The project is being supported by an advisory board consisting of representatives from the city administration, local council, youth delegation and Rastatt clubs.
