When allocating building plots to private investors, the city attaches great importance to creating affordable housing for people on lower incomes. This housing should also be barrier-free - adapted to the needs of senior citizens and people with disabilities, for example. With the "Rastatt model", which was adopted by the municipal council in 2021, the city of Rastatt has already taken an important step towards creating social housing in new buildings.
The principle: the private housing provider grants the city the right to propose the occupancy of the barrier-free new-build apartment and also ensures that the rent for the tenant does not exceed the accommodation costs recognized by social benefit providers. In return, the city subsidizes the rent. The agreement applies for a defined funding period.
